I travelled to Russia on a package tour for a week in November 1987, visiting Moscow and Leningrad (as it was then, now St. Petersburg). From Moscow I visited the nearby town of Zagorsk and my stay in Leningrad coincided with celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the revolution. This was after glasnost, but before perestroika.
